RECONSTRUCTION AND RECOVERY
OF THE VIRGINIA CREEPER TRAIL
On September 27 2024 Hurricane Helene,
in addition to wrecking multiple communities throughout the Southeast,
destroyed 19 trestles, damaged several more and tore up miles of surface on Virginia's famous and beloved Creeper Trail.
This website provides a local perspective of the Damascus-Whitetop corridor and the significance of the trail to our area.
The Kiewit Corporation is here and is transporting equipment to different sites (see map on right). Work has started in many areas.

The Kiewit Corporation is building a third bridge in Taylor's Valley
solely for the use of its heavy equipment.
This photo is taken from the temporary bridge looking downstream
at the new bridge, under construction.
The heavy equipment bridge will go where you can see the rock piles on both sides of the creek.
