First car in Damascus,
probably around 1916. My grandmother used to brag about this.
Actually she bragged about a lot of things, like being the first woman
to go swimming in Damascus,
(no photos available). My grandfather is driving, and the passengers
are my father and aunt.

Damascus High School baseball team in front of the Rock School, probably
around 1927.
My father Garland Smith is third from the right in the back row.

My grandfather
E. F. "Doc" Smith (right) at the pharmacy in Damascus.
The building is gone now, replaced by a parking lot.
A visit to the Damascus library and to the book of old buildings there
will reveal
how much classic architecture the town has lost.

The family

in Damascus in the early part of the century. |
